As PAMA celebrates its Ruby Anniversary, it has adopted as its mission the implementation of a 5-year strategic plan aimed at making PAMA the premier organization of management accountant a significant partner of the government in achieving Vision 2030 goals.
Talking of vision, the Philippine Association of Management Accountants (PAMA) was established on May 8, 1972 by a group of pioneering men led by Mr. Luis C. Diaz. Its primary objective: to promote management accounting in the Philippines. It was initially named as National Association of Accountants (NAA), Philippine International Chapter, Inc., a chapter and later on an affiliate of NAA (USA), now known as the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) based in New Jersey U.S.A. The name was further changed to the Philippine Association of Management Accountants (“PAMA”) on August 22, 1978.
PAMA membership consists mainly of those in the management accounting profession and or who occupy the top three positions in financial management or controllership. Many also belong to the leading accounting firms in the Philippines. Professional development includes monthly general membership meetings, seminars and public fora, and the annual convention where experts in specific areas of interest both in the public and private sectors are invited to speak. PAMA publishes also quarterly the PAMA Currents, the official newsletter of the Association.
The spirit of camaraderie and fellowship is fostered through the annual Christmas Party, anniversary celebration, Ladies Night, cultural lectures and programs, and presentation of awards to deserving members and committees.
Fully aware of its social responsibility, PAMA unfailingly sponsors community projects such as livelihood seminars, gift-giving to indigents and jail inmates and anti-drug symposia in coordination with the Philippine National Red Cross. PAMA also provides free consultancy and accounting sessions to small and medium enterprises belonging to the Entrepinoy Volunteers Foundation, Inc. (EVFI).
In January 1986, the Association chartered the first PAMA chapter in Iloilo City. Other chapters followed - Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, General Santos, Laguna, Palawan, Olongapo, and Zambales. These chapters have been effective in creating opportunities for networking and knowledge-sharing.
Our 40th Jubillee anniversary will not be complete if we would not take this opportunity to thank and salute those who have served unselfishly and whose competent and dynamic leadership have seen us through these four decades of service to the membership and the management accounting profession:
