The Philippine Association of Management Accountants (PAMA)  was established on May 8, 1972 by a group of men led by Luis C. Diaz, whose primary objective was to promote the management accounting profession.

Founded as the National Association of Accountants (NAA), Philippine International Chapter, Inc., it is affiliated with NAA now known as the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) in New Jersey U.S.A.   The Association’s name was changed to  Philippine Association of Management Accountants on August 22, 1978.

Among its  goals are:

  • To unite through membership in the Association, persons interested in management accounting;
  • To provide opportunities for members to increase their knowledge of accounting practices and methods and to increase their individual capabilities;
  • To develop through research, discussion and exchange of information, a better understanding of the sources, types, purposes and uses of accounting and related data as applied to all information available to members; and
  • To stimulate acquaintance and fellowship among members.

The Association admits persons engaged in management accounting who occupy top positions in financial management or controllership.

Professional development in the Association includes the general membership meetings, fora and seminars, and the annual convention.   The general membership meetings deal with relevant and current issues discussed by leading speakers in the private and public sectors.   They provide the venue for the exchange of ideas and experiences.   Fora and seminars are also another form of interaction where issues are discussed and analyzed.   Likewise, the annual conventions serve as a venue for the exchange of ideas.   Experts in specific areas of interest are invited to speak at these conferences.   The publication of PAMA Currents, the official letter of the Association, is a part of the Association’s efforts to help its members enhance their skills.

The spirit of cooperation and involvement in the Association’s affairs is fostered through regular general membership meetings and through special activities like the annual Christmas Party, anniversary celebration, Ladies Night,  cultural lectures and programs, and presentation of awards to deserving members and committees.

Fully aware of its social responsibility, PAMA unfailingly sponsors community projects such as livelihood seminars, gift-giving to indigents and jail inmates and anti-drug symposia in coordination with the Philippine National Red Cross.  PAMA has also entered into a Memorandum of Agreement with the Entrepinoy Volunteers Foundation, Inc. (EVFI) where PAMA has pledged to provide free consultancy services to small and medium enterprises that are EVFI members.

On May 2, 1982, the Association launched its Certificate in Management Accounting (AMAP) Program of NAA.   The program sought to accredit the holder of the certificate for his proficiency in the field of management accounting.  Honorary AMAP certificates were awarded to leaders in management in the fields of government industry, banking and finance, education and public accounting sectors.  The awardees were elevated to honorary life membership.

Nearly two (2) decades later, the Association sought to infuse  new life to its AMAP Program.  To put the program on a par with international standards and to assure competitiveness of Filipino AMAPs with their counterparts abroad, PAMA adopted IMAs international certification program.  It spearheaded the organization of the PAMA Foundation as a vehicle for raising funds for and eventually managing the program.   On May 5, 2000, the Association launched its CMA Program which is now completely aligned with that of IMA. The actual AMAP (USA) Review finally became a reality in April 2005 with the joint efforts of PAMA, the University of the East, Manila, the PAMA Foundation, Inc. and the IMA, MM Chapter.

In January 1986, the Association chartered the first PAMA chapter in Iloilo City.   Other chapters followed - Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, General Santos, Laguna, Palawan, Olongapo, and Zambales. These chapters have been effective in creating opportunities for networking and knowledge-sharing.

The Association maintains its own Secretariat to service its needs and that of the members.   The Secretariat Office is located at Unit 1601 Cityland Condominium 10 Tower I, H.V. dela Costa St., Salcedo Village, Makati City 1227  with telephone and fax no. 813-2751, mobile no. 0921-9962446 and  e-mail address:  This email address is being protected from spambots.
